Tony Furtado

Surprisingly banjo & guitar ace Tony
Furtado showed up in Hamburg to
play a great concert. I had the pleasure
of meeting him back in the 90's, when
i travelled through the U.S. studying
Bluegrass banjo.
Check him out here

Turf pick

14.10 Folkestone Ponte di Rosa 25/1***NR

Another longshot, that could easily trail in last, when the other runners are already home and hosed. But this jolly is down in class, has an excellent draw, good speed ratings and an trainer, who has his string in decent form. Enough positives to get my nod.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Ascot 16:25 I always take note, when a french raider is entered in a big race in England. This time it is Daryakana, the only filly in a star-studded field and according to the stats completely without a chance. But i am going against the crowd and have an each-way bet at 14/1 with a small stake.***unpl.

17.07. Turf pick

Newbury 15.20 Reckless Reward 5/1***unpl.

The class horse in a massive 25-runner field. With Richard Hannon´s stable in splendid form and Ryan Moore in the saddle, a great run has to be expected.

Back on my stomping ground

Lake Titicaca

The journey confirmed my strong belief, that for me as a beerdrinker and non-familyman traveling independetly through countries like those is one of the best things i can do in my life. Added great memories and met some genuine nice folks along the way.
Bolivia - I like it. Friendly, inexpensive and save, unless you drive on the world´s most dangerous road from La Paz to Coroico. Different climate zones, a great variety of flora and fauna and lots of historical sites make it an interesting coutry to explore. Social unrest happens occasionally though with the beloved road block.
Paraguay - When i arrived in Asuncion i found "Hamburger Schmuddelwedder" with rain and low temperatures. I decided to move on to Brasil asap. However, on my way back the sun was scorching hot and the 28 hour bus ride through the Gran Chaco was not pleasant. Asuncion is quite a charming city with it´s collonial buildings, good beer too.
Brasil - Aaaah... Brasil: Samba, sun, Bossa, beer, fiesta, football - you get the picture. Well, i had some of the above, but it is probably necessary to travel deeper into the country to find the real Brasil.

Vallegrande / Bolivia

This is the laundry building, where Che Guevara´s body was presented to the press after he was killed in the nearby village of La Higuera in 1967. May his spirit lives on.

Iguazu Falls / Brasil

I have already been to the mighty Victoria Falls, so I didn´t go overboard by the view of this falls. But definitely worth a visit.

Starting a Tri-Nation Drift tomorrow

Countries include Bolivia, Paraguay and Brasil. Places, where the nonsense of the old world will not reach me. For a while no TV, no Computer and no damn´cellular anyways. Freedom, people - just freedom.

28.05. World-Cup 2010 Group D

Germany is fav in this group ? Are you kiddin' me ? When i look at their squad i find not a single world class player, a couple of players with international class and many players with callosities on their butts from sitting on the subs-bench all season long. I rather have Serbia. Rock solid defense and great football skills. So Serbia to win Group D is the call here at odds of 4 with Stan James.

1.05. World Cup 2010

I fancy Argentina to be a leading contender. Qualification wasn't a smooth ride, but meanwhile they are a tight unit, loaded with talent. If Maradona keeps his antics to a minimum and Messy stays healthy, they should play a strong tournament. Odds of 8.6 with Betfair seem to be value in my book. Off to Peru tomorrow.

29.04.2010 Fulham - Hamburg

Hamburg coach Labbadia got booted out and now replacement Moniz faces the stiff task to get a bunch of players without pride and attitude matchfit against grimly determined Cottagers. Zamora is still under treatment, while van Nistelrooy and Demel are not sure to participate for Hamburg (watching Demel, the successor of Hamburg football legend and master of the banana cross, Manfred Kaltz, in the first leg made me wanna cry ). Can a stroke of genius from Pedric save Hamburg again ? I doubt it. Fulham to win.***2:1
